How To: Dry Shampoo

First off what is Dry Shampoo?  It's a dry powdery substance that goes in and sucks up any dirt and oil that is causing your scalp to look greasy. Thus extending the length of your style. Simply put it's a huge time saver in my get ready process,  allowing me to go a few days before my next wash.

How to Apply. It's super easy to apply 1. Pull up a section of hair. 2. Spray dry shampoo. I always work in a horse shoe around my head, stopping when the curve of my head begins to flatten.

Less is always better. I've heard that it can make your hair look white, however this has never happened to me but I'm always careful. I don't put the can to close to my scalp and I apply very little. After spraying it in, I let it sit for a little bit and then go through and kind of rub it in with my fingers and I'm done.  Easy enough.

When. I usually apply it the next day after washing but hardly any at all. Then I apply everyday until I wash again. So if I washed my hair Monday I would apply Tuesday morning and so on.

Why I use Dry Shampoo. I use to wash my hair every day, every day! You can imagine how annoying that was. I was having to blow dry and styl every single morning which means, I had to get up before the rest of the human race to be ready at a normal hour. That got old fast, so I decided one day not to wash my hair and to my surprise I survived. However my hair was extremely dirty and greasy.  My scalp knowing that it would stripped clean of all it's natural oils every morning was way over doing it because it was trying to compensate for all the washing. Basically me and my hair were not communicating and we needed to talk.

So I talked to my hair and I said look no more washing every day it's driving me nuts, so you need to stop producing so much oil ok? It's not necessary. It took my hair a couple month's to understand but eventually I was going four days without washing and life was great. I also stopped putting conditioner on my scalp because our scalp produces it's own natural oils it doesn't need any extra help so I saved all that conditioner for my sad little ends. I found that it was actually healthier for my hair not to be washed everyday, and my color was lasting longer.

I use Beyond the Zone and I think it works great, if you use Dry Shampoo and have any tips or tricks I would to hear. I'm still fairly new at it.

  1. Thanks Courtney! I wash my hair every day because it gets so oily, but this gives me hope that maybe I just need to "train" it like you did? If you have more tips for people with oily hair, I'm all ears. I've tried dry shampoo on day 2 but my hair still feels oily only a few hours after I use it. hm.

    1. Ya I would definitaly try training it. Your scalp is probably just use to being washed everyday and is producing a lot of oil. I notice that on the fourth day(most oily day) the dry shampoo isn't helping much and that's when I have to wear it up. It did take my hair a couple of months to get use to it. Let me know how it goes.

  4. Hi! I would like to open beauty salon. Does anybody have an experience in this business? There are too many options in different salon equipment. Could anybody give me an advise? What store is more reliable to buy Galvanic facial and High frequency galvanic machine. I'm choosing between Advance-Esthetic and Miami Beauty Supply websites.
